Summary of\u00a0 Family Properties as at 1455<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>It is rather difficult to ascertain the true extent of the families property holdings,\u00a0 as I have already mentioned\u00a0 a great number of\u00a0 families did not state the full extent of their estate in official documents, and even though our ancestors were in a position of authority, I don’t see why they should be any different from the rest of the population,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>As rough estimate I have estimated that their total holdings would have been in excess of\u00a0 more six hundred acres in properties that\u00a0 they did declare,\u00a0 with probably another three hundred which they probablyfunny speech examples for school<\/a> didn’t being in apposition to fiddle the books.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>On top of the above should added probably a considerable amount of land which they did not actually own. But was granted to them during the recipients, lifetime for which he could collect\u00a0 rents. Although these lands were usually passed on their heirs and successors for a period of numerous generations,\u00a0 on payment of a peppercorn rent.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>One such transaction was recorded in the Feet of Fines for Dorset Henry V. 1413. in a transcript of\u00a0 a somewhat convoluted document, an agreement by William Chaldecott and Robert Rempston agreeing that they would pay to a Walter Dernford a Brian Jerrad. The price of 40 marks of silver, and thereafter a rent of one pound of pepper per year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This was for a twenty acre meadow and various other pieces of land at Langton and Swanage. This rent to be paid to Walter and Brian and their heirs and successors forever. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Land which was declared in official documents<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Kimmeridge area<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>1. A large house with fields and Mooreland grazing rights in excess of approximately 120 acres this was over the years referred to as Chaldecotts, \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>2 .East Creech a house and lands of approximately\u00a0 50\u00a0 acres or more,\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>3. East and West Orchard\u00a0 house and land probably about 130 acres,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

0ther.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>Quarleston\u00a0 near Winterborne Stickland a large farm house with approximately50acres<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>A house and\u00a0 farmland in Wareham\u00a0 known as North Hungerhill\u00a0 With land of an area of\u00a0 about\u00a0 50 acres.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

On top of these listed above they also owned land\u00a0 and properties in Shaftesbury\u00a0 and Dorchester\u00a0 Also\u00a0 Hilton, Buckland Newton\u00a0 and\u00a0 Sherborn also land and properties in Somerset\u00a0 some of\u00a0 these were\u00a0 initially held under grant.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

After this period when William and Richard became of age these holdings would be divided and then over the next few generations. Each of these heirs descendents would add to these over a period, but\u00a0 after the early 1600,s\u00a0 family holdings would dwindle as the days of vast land acquisition faded.\u00a0\u00a0 The main reason for this was that the largest proportion\u00a0 of descendants of\u00a0 one particular branch of the family were female. therefore a\u00a0 great deal, of this property went to them and their husbands, <\/span><\/span>and would disappear from the family ownership forever.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
